Grading
Grading normally occurs about
4 times per year for those below Black Belt; Black Belts and above
grade once per year. The Grading process is quite formal, as you would
expect, where you are tested as a group against a Syllabus defined and
maintained by the Chief Instructor. If you have attained the necessary
skills, as defined, to advance, then you are able to move onto
preparing for the
next level.
There is absolutely no pressure to grade to the next level - this is
entirely up to you and your Club Instructor.
A speciality of New Zealand Nam Wah Pai is the focus upon both the
external and internal concepts of the martial arts. Initially at the
start of Nam Wah Pai training you will learn the external concepts such
as flexibility, kicking, punching, kata's, weapons and free sparring
etc. At senior belt level (brown belt and above) you will progress on
to Internal Strength training, which involves learning how to channel
the body's energy to improve health and self defence capabilities.
